Chapter 3 in Measuring Productivity in Education and Not-for-Profits, 2021, pp 29-43 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter introduces additional productivity concepts and definitions necessary for conducting different types of productivity analyses. It expands upon the school districts case study from the previous chapter and adds nuance to the investigation. The tutorial shows several ways to estimate productivity to address diverse and often conflicting interests among stakeholders. It then shows how to normalize results for easier interpretation. The chapter concludes by stressing that productivity measurement exercises in schools or not-for-profits should always entertain multiple treatments of data to entertain multiple perspectives on performance.
