Chapter 10 in Aircraft Valuation in Volatile Market Conditions, 2022, pp 369-404 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract With a large population and robust economic growth, Asia Pacific is well on its way to becoming the largest air transportation market in the world. Boeing projected a need for 13,320 new single-aisle airplanes over the next 20 years for Asia-Pacific, representing over 76% of total new deliveries in that market. China’s wide body fleet will require 1590 new planes, and a total of 8600 new planes would be needed through 2039. Numerous new aircraft types in different seat categories have recently entered commercial service or are imminent in the next few years. Clearly, 2020 has been a critical year for the aircraft manufacturing industry with the demise of the Airbus A380 and the problems with the worldwide grounding of the Boeing 737 Max, which later followed by the worst collapse in the aviation industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
