Chapter 5 in HR Leadership During Bankruptcy and Organizational Change, 2022, pp 39-45 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract There is not a one size fits all approach for organizations to manage change. We explore the two types of organizational change; adaptive change which is usually smaller, gradual changes and transformational change which are larger in scope and often require dramatic change. This chapter explores various change models which could be employed by human resource professionals and leaders. The two change models include the Kübler-Ross model and the Kotter 8-Step change model. In 1969, Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross published “On Death and Dying” where she elaborated on the “5 Stages of Death” also known as the “5 Stages of Grief.” These stages include Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance and closely mimic the emotions employees go through when faced with organizational change. Kotter’s 8-Step change model includes creating and sustaining a sense of urgency throughout the process.
