Chapter Chapter 2 in Strategy Praxis, 2023, pp 41-65 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Strategy is about solving problems. Strategic problems tend to be complex, riddled with ambiguity and demand an approach suitable to the task. The first principles approach introduced in this chapter cuts through the causal ambiguity encountered in strategic problem-solving and enables us to drill down to the root causes of a problem. Strategic thinking coupled with strategic analysis generates insights that allow us to establish a foundation for better-informed decision-making. In this chapter, we build on the classical structured problem-solving algorithm and develop a first principles-based approach to strategic problem-solving, which constitutes a core theme of this book.
