Abstract:
Abstract Many producing companies face raising expectations with regard to their operations performance. At the same time, they have to deal with an increasing complexity of products and processes. Hence, in order to stay competitive or to outperform competition by operations excellence, a proper PCS is indispensible. Within this research, a PCS engineering framework has been developed to help companies with complex discrete production systems to tailor an effective PCS according to their needs. A systems engineering approach that structures the relevant design drivers and is able to cope with the complexity faced in practice has been taken. The developed generic PCS model is based on queuing network theory and is able to answer the three most prominent questions in PCS engineering:
