Chapter Chapter 6 in Platform Business Models for Executives, 2023, pp 73-87 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The architecture of platforms also needs to be defined appropriately. There are implications of keeping the platform open or closed; as well as keeping it shared or proprietary. The building blocks of platform architecture including platform sponsor, platform provider, and platform users are introduced, and the design of open, closed, shared, and proprietary platforms are elaborated in this chapter. At the end of this chapter, you would be able to analyse a platform’s architecture in terms of open-closed and shared-proprietary; and therefore appreciate the implications for growth and sustainability of these firms.
