Chapter Chapter 1 in The Organizational Impact of Patient Engagement, 2024, pp 1-3 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract As healthcare systems face rising costs, aging populations, and the growing prevalence of chronic diseases, one solution holds transformative potential: patient engagement. By empowering patients as active partners in their care, healthcare organizations can achieve better outcomes, improved quality, and enhanced efficiency (Coulter, 2017; Graffigna et al., 2014). This book explores the power of patient engagement through a systematic literature review and a case study of Fondazione Mondino IRCCS, a leading neurological hospital in Italy. Highlighting the critical yet often overlooked role of the front office, it introduces the Patient Engagement at Front Office (PEFO) framework. This practical tool emphasizes digital integration, staff empowerment, environment optimization, information clarity, and feedback loops. Providing actionable strategies, this book offers healthcare leaders insights to redefine patient experiences, driving meaningful improvements in care delivery and organizational performance.
