Chapter Chapter 3 in Risk-Pooling Essentials, 2015, pp 25-36 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Contingency theory suggests that the best way to organize a company or processes depends (is contingent) on internal and external conditions (contingency factors). Thus, we also find that different economic conditions, advantages and disadvantages, and basic trade-offs favor the implementation of one risk-pooling method or a combination of risk-pooling methods. Based on these considerations and the most distinguishing contingency factors in assessing the suitability of risk-pooling methods we develop a Risk Pooling Decision Support Tool (RPDST). This RPDST is devised in the form of a flow chart and implemented in a free downloadable software. The usage of this software is described and illustrated with screenshots. The RPDST supports choosing appropriate risk-pooling methods for a specific situation. At the end of this chapter we critically appraise this decision support tool.
