The Lessons of Williamstown

Stephen B. Maurer

A chapter in New Directions in Two-Year College Mathematics, 1985, pp 255-270 from Springer

Abstract: Summary The Williamstown conference of July, 1982, provided a detailed rationale and agenda for increasing the role of discrete mathematics in the first two years of the core undergraduate mathematics curriculum. What has happened since? In this paper, the author reviews what has happened, discusses some of the issues raised, and ends with some brief suggestions about the relevance to two-year colleges.
