Boss Fight: Changes in Priorities Lead to a Self-Inflicted Crisis
Devon Gidley ()
Chapter Chapter 5 in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Indie Video Game Industry, 2025, pp 111-140 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract After the announced departure of the Quarry manager, BAT took a series of missteps. These choices lead to a self-inflicted crisis within the Quarry. This crux event has origins in the first two crux events (introduction of new members and changing the rules). In this chapter, the first cohort is told their options; the RPP teams pitch for secondary funding; the funding process fails; BAT conducts exit interviews; several members of the first cohort leave the Quarry. Money changes everything. Should small indie game studios work on multiple projects at the same time? There is a hierarchy for indie game studio funding.
