Chapter Chapter 19 in The Palgrave Handbook of Change and Resilience at Work, 2025, pp 411-422 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The role of change management in the workplace has become increasingly important in recent years. This chapter takes a closer look at workplace change from a spiritual angle. Creating a culture of continuous improvement in a workplace is critical, and a condition for this is for everyone to understand more about their subconscious behavior and patterns. Quality improvement and emotional intelligence will lead to effective change. The chapter thereby emphasizes the importance of contemplation as an act of thinking deeply on a subject or idea, and spiritual contemplation as the practice of focusing one’s mind and spirit on divine or transcendent matters. The authors then review the stages of change to help us understand the process. In order to provide broader insight, Kotter’s eight steps in leading change are evaluated in order to examine the process further in the context of spiritual contemplation. In order to illustrate the change process, the authors also provide examples of client organizations they have consulted to.
