Abstract:
Abstract Services have emerged as the largest and fastest growing segment of the economy and account for more than 70% of the labor force in Germany and 75% of the labor force in the United States and the UK. Since this trend has been known for quite a number of years, it is surprising how little academic research is explicitly devoted to services. This observation certainly deserves a closer look, and in this short position statement I would like to summarize some thoughts as to what services science is and could be.
