Abstract:
Abstract Based on field tests at high-head pumped storage power plant, the operating point of a high-speed reversible turbine often tends to enter “S” zone when it starts for generating mode, which brings the difficulty of synchronization and instability of zero-load operating condition. Misaligned Guide Vanes (MGV) device is specifically designed to solve such kind of problems. In this paper, the configuration, the fundamental working mechanism and characteristics of MGV device are briefly introduced. Then, the mathematical model is developed for load rejection of reversible unit with MGV device, based on the simulation idea of “two parallel runners with the same characteristics and on the same shaft”. The simulation shows a reasonable agreement with the field test data, which verifies the validity of the mathematical model and the favorable effects when using MGV device during load rejection events.
