Abstract:
Abstract Boundary element method, as an attractive and promising numerical analysis tool, has been successfully applied to complex boundary and irregular shape problems [1,2]. Compared with other numerical methods, its significant advantages are its semi-analytical nature and the reduction of the problem dimension. However, its extension to fluid-solid coupling problems still need to be investigated [3]. In this paper, the boundary element method is developed for fluid-solid coupling problems. The mathematical model is shown in Fig.1, where Γ0 is external boundary of the solid area and Γ1, Γ2 and Γn are the interfaces between the fluid and solid area. The discretized boundary element formulation expressed in terms of normalized displacements and tractions is used for solid domain, and the fluid is considered incompressible. An iterative technique has been used to determine the displacements and tractions of the interface between the fluid and solid. Numerical examples are presented for the two-dimension static fluid-solid coupling problem subjected to different external boundary conditions.
