Abstract: Abstract The behaviors under impact condition are different from the ones under quasi-static condition. Using the finite element method program LS-DYNA, the energy release rate (ERR) and the dynamic stress intensity factor (SIF) for a 3-point bending specimen were evaluated based on the virtual crack closure technology (VCCT) in conjunction with finite element analysis (FEA). Quantitative comparisons between the numerical and experimental values were made, and the results showed that they were in good agreement. Then, two symmetrical minor cracks were placed in the structure, and the dynamic fracture parameters were calculated under impact loads (including the sine, linear, anomalistic progress), and the results were compared with the ones of single crack. Finally, the rule of the dynamic stress intensity factors of the main crack with the variation in lengths and locations of the minor cracks was obtained under linear impact load. The developed numerical method for dynamic fracture problems with multiple cracks was presented for engineering application.
