Chapter Chapter 12 in A Systems Approach to Leadership, 2009, pp 139-154 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Naturalistic Enquiry is central to working in naturalistic environments and to a Systems Approach to Leadership. In presenting Naturalistic Enquiry the chapter commences with the cyclic and emergent nature of the overall process. It next suggests using CSMP as a template for enquiry by paying particular attention to each of its layers (i.e. the dynamics of individual thinking, action, whole system functioning and overall performance). The importance of gaining insight into complex problems and the differences between naturalistic and deterministic enquiry are discussed before introducing the key steps of Naturalistic Enquiry. A total of thirteen practical tips, including prompt questions, for increasing the speed, effectiveness and robustness of Naturalistic Enquiry are then outlined.
