Chapter 1 in Knowledge Spaces, 2013, pp 3-26 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract A student facing a computer terminal answers questions displayed on the screen by manipulating the keyboard. The questions probe the student’s competence in a scholarly subject, such as arithmetic, elementary algebra (called Algebra I in many U.S. schools), or first-year college chemistry. Afterwards, on the basis of this assessment, the computer proceeds to teach the material to the student.
