Abstract: Zusammenfassung Dieses Kapitel beleuchtet die gesellschaftliche Bedeutung der Mathematik. Ausgehend von grundlegenden und philosophischen Fragen zum Wesen der Mathematik wird darauf eingegangen, wie der Wandel von Mathematik und Gesellschaft historisch Hand in Hand ging, welche Kultur von Wissen in der Mathematik gepflegt wird, wie Mathematik als Werkzeug angewandt wird und wie Mathematik in der Gesellschaft wahrgenommen wird.
