Abstract: Abstract Strategic talent management can be described as all of the processes and activities that are used to systematically identify, attract, develop and retain employees who are of particular value to an organisation in order to create strategic sustainable success. In this chapter, we will re-evaluate two important and complementary views traditionally taken on strategic talent management and introduce a fresh perspective on the topic. First, we consider the talent management philosophy, which is key for creating a common definition and understanding of talent within the organisation. Second, we consider five recommendations for the strategic use of talent. These reflect best-practice approaches used by organisations and which are supported by research to ensure that investments in talent management are of strategic value. With these fresh perspectives in mind, we also develop a framework for studying and implementing talent management strategies in a practice setting more effectively.
