A chapter in Analytics Modeling in Reliability and Machine Learning and Its Applications, 2025, pp 321-341 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this article, we delve into the integration of MTConnect-a standardized communication protocol for the exchange of manufacturing equipment data-as a unidirectional level digital twin technology in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), aiming for digital transformation in the context of Industry 5.0. We examine how MTConnect serves as a linchpin for data standardization and data acquisition, providing a cost-effective and scalable solution that enables SMEs to leverage advanced analytics for predictive maintenance and operational control. The article presents a case study of IMOCOM Company’s adoption of MTConnect to enhance operational efficiency and reduce machine downtime, highlighting the development of a Decision Support System (DSS) using Microsoft Excel for data visualization and process monitoring. By focusing on the practical implementation and the ensuing benefits, the study emphasizes MTConnect’s transformative potential in smart manufacturing and the future avenues for its evolution to further empower SMEs in the digital age.
