Curriculum Developers’ Reflections on the Expanded Core Curriculum for Learners with Visual Impairment

Abstract: Purpose: &The ECC is a cornerstone to providing equitable education for students who have visual impairments vision. Its development should be based local conditions and professional knowledge. This qualitative research investigate the views of those who worked on developing ECC for learners with visual impairments.Design/Methodology/Approach: A semi-structured interviews was used to collect data. To interpret data, systematic thematic analysis was used. This study explores how the ECC was developed; what it consists of; whether there are content gaps relative to international standards. &Findings: Findings of this study indicated that there was no standardized framework, specialized representation of professionals, organized and established procedure to develop this ECC. These shortcomings also include gaps in content, lack of resources, materials and lacks in introduction of modern skills and technologies. Furthermore, feedback mechanism, collaboration and involvement of stakeholders were also absent. In addition to all these gaps attitudinal barriers also effects the development of intended ECC.Implications/Originality/Value:& This study proposed evidence-based recommendations for the development of a contextually relevant, standardized, and comprehensive, ECC framework for learners with visual impairments by specific professionals. The findings of this study may offer foundations for policymakers, curriculum developers, and educators in improving educational practices in limited resource.
