Green HRM, Green In-Role Behavior, Green Extra-Role Behavior: The Moderating Role of Green Leadership in the Higher Education Sector of Pakistan

Abstract: Purpose: The study aims to investigate how Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) affects employees’ green in-role and extra-role behavior and to examine the moderating effect of green leadership on this relationship in universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.Design/Methodology/Approach: Data were collected from 280 faculty members and analysis was run through Smart pls 4 software to confirm validity and reliability to develop a structural equation model. For this study, a convenience sampling technique was used to select participants based on availability and accessibility. Harman’s single-factor was also conducted to check common method bias (CMB).Findings: A strong positive relationship is found between green human resource management and employees’ in-role and extra-role behaviors. In addition, the results also show that green leadership moderates the impact of GHRM on green in-role and extra-role behavior in higher education sector.Implications/Originality/Value: Drawing on social exchange theory, the current study has significant theoretical and practical implications. It will help the university authorities following the implementation of GHRM. The authorities will be able to implement effective policies resulting in the sustainability of universities. It will also help design an organizational culture in tune with green values and resilient green leadership.
