The Future of Regulation in the Public Sector

Abstract: This article considers the changes in methods of public service delivery and the demands for lower cost, less intrusive and more risk-based regulation, and what this means for public service regulators. It sets out key principles of regulation and defines the various types of regulator. The article seeks to initiate a broader debate, involving all affected stakeholders, regarding the future structure of public service regulation.
