Abstract:
Budget transparency and fiscal soundness are potent mechanisms for enabling politicians and bureaucrats to align their actions with the public’s interest. However, when budget transparency is coupled with excessive citizen participation, fiscal performance can be compromised. This underscores the importance of implementing institutional mechanisms to mitigate fiscal populism, thereby enhancing fiscal accountability alongside the transparency framework.
