A survey of system-cybernetic principles in supply chain resilience: viability, artificial intelligence, digital twins, and ecosystems

Abstract: Supply chain resilience and viability are increasingly important in business profitability, competitive edge, and society’s survival. In this paper, we summarise system-cybernetic views of supply chain resilience and viability. Systems and control sciences provide a broad range of principles and mathematical apparatus that allow enhancing research on resilience from an integrated, multi-disciplinary perspective. Departing from the Viable Supply Chain Model, we show some formal models of viable systems with structural dynamics control. Subsequently, we elaborate on system-cybernetic principles underlying AI-based digital twins and ecosystems.
