Abstract: This paper examines the experience of building and using tax-benefit microsimulation models for countries in the Global South in EUROMOD. The study focuses mainly on three key initiatives: the pioneering SAMOD model, the SOUTHMOD project, and EUROMOD-based models for Latin America. The paper provides an overview of these initiatives and highlights the importance of taking account of the developing-country context in the simulations.
