Zigan Wang
Chapter 3 in Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility:Emerging Markets Focus, 2014, pp 63-106 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
In this chapter, I comprehensively summarize the corporate structure of Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) including their financial status, relationship with government and political background. I also provide an overview of government policies, content, means, procedures and legal problems in restructuring SOEs along with detailed discussions of the differences before and after reform. In addition, academic findings about the effects of reforms are reviewed. Moreover, this chapter summarizes the domestic and overseas listings of SOEs and the empirical effects of such listings. Through the above summaries, I hope to provide a systematic understanding of the history of Chinese SOEs' reform.
