Reurbanisierung im Kontext einer neuen Unübersichtlichkeit regionaler Entwicklungsmuster: Das Beispiel der Stadtregion Stuttgart

Ansgar Schmitz-Veltin

A chapter in Reurbanisierung in baden-württembergischen Stadtregionen, 2015, pp 77-95 from ARL – Akademie für Raumentwicklung in der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft

Abstract: For decades suburbanization was the most significant trend in intraregional migration in Germany. But during the past few years city centres have gained net immigration from urban hinterlands. This development is being discussed as re-urbanization. Using the example of Stuttgart, the paper explores whether recent migration trends can actually be regarded as re-urbanization and whether re-urbanization can be described as an enduring trend. The discussion includes consideration of a number of statistics on population development, migration, building activities and employment trends.
