THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR IN THE SOUTH MUNTENIA REGION: PARTICULARITIES AND TRENDS

Abstract: The paper presents the evolution of the agricultural sector in the South Muntenia region in the period 2000-2006, highlighting the characteristics of this sector, which is very important for the economy of the region. The paper reveals the contribution of the agricultural sector to the regional Gross Domestic Product, the South Muntenia region being on the first position among the eight developing regions from the point of view of the agricultural potential. The paper presents the evolution of the crop production, focusing on the main agricultural crops of the region, as well as the livestock production evolution, focusing on the number of livestock herds. At the same time, the paper identifies the trends and the prospects of the agricultural sector in the South-Muntenia region.
