Abstract:
This article is based on a study investigating the impact of working time mismatches, which are defined as the difference between desired and actual working hours, on dimensions of work-life-balance. Based on a theoretical stress model the empirical study shows by means of data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) that working time discrepancies have a negative impact on job and health satisfaction for employees. Furthermore, the article discusses implications for research and social policy regarding over- and underemployment.
