Abstract: The rapid increase in inflation in advanced economies since 2021 has had wide-ranging consequences. In the face of multi-decade highs in inflation rates central banks tightened monetary policy substantially last year, after over a decade of ultra-low policy interest rates, in order to restrain inflation and to indicate their commitment to restoring inflation to its target rate.
