Abstract: Abstract Louisiana is located in the West South Central region of the United States. Louisiana has a population of 4.3 million people, making it the twenty-fifth most populous state in 2007. The state’s population decreased by 175,772 people from 2000 to 2007. This is in-part due☺ to those displaced after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. However, Louisiana’s population is projected to increase to 4.8 million by 2025. This 0.6% projected annual growth rate is only slightly below the national average of 0.8%. From 2006 to 2007 the state’s population grew by 0.1%. Per capita personal income in Louisiana was $35,770 in 2007, up from $31,369 in 2006. For 2007, this was $2,794 below the national average and the twenty-fourth lowest in the country. The state’s per capita income grew at a compound annual rate of 6.5% from 2000 to 2007, compared to 3.7% nationally.
