Chapter Chapter 11 in Divestitures and Spin-Offs, 2018, pp 111-121 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The first few weeks of planning after the announcement of a divestiture or spin-off are very critical to successful execution of the transaction. Before defining separation plans and starting execution, it is essential to identify budget and resource needs and onboard stakeholders and execution teams. These are keys in setting up the Separation Management Office (SMO) or Divestiture Management Office (DMO) that will guide, track, and oversee separation or divestiture activities. Planning for this phase helps ensure quick ramp-up of resources, reduced time to start execution, and accelerated time to complete execution.
