His research focuses on the marketing of urban places, and retailing. Results of this research have been published in various academic journals in a variety of academic disciplines, including management, geography, urban studies, tourism, and architecture. Gary is a widely published author and has co-edited Rethinking Place Branding: Comprehensive Brand Development for Cities and Regions (2015).
