Abstract:
Abstract This introduction chapter introduces the concepts of business models and elucidates the differences between pipelines and platform business models. The core concepts on networks (compatibility, complementarity, and standards), platforms (network effects, value architectures, penguin problems, pricing and subsidies, winner-takes-all dynamics, and platform envelopment), and issues around platform competition are introduced briefly.
