Chapter Chapter 21 in Platform Business Models, 2021, pp 315-328 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This concluding chapter consolidates the learning and introduces contemporary issues in managing and governing platforms. The societal impact of platforms is analyzed, including the challenges of international regulation. This chapter also introduces platforms in contestable markets (markets with costless entry and exit and no sunk costs). An analysis of platforms as contestable markets will also lead to a discussion of how platforms in seemingly different markets compete against each other in the form of multi-point competition. Issues around privacy and the costs of complying with national and international regulation are also explored.
