Abstract:
The research conducted for this Technical Report combines transaction level data on robot imports from the Longitudinal Foreign Trade Transactions Database (LFTTD) with establishment level data from the Longitudinal Business Dataset (LBD), Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM) and Census of Manufactures (CMF), for the years 1992-2021. This report explains how we link this information together at the firm level, and use the resulting data together with information on state-level labor policies to study (i) the link between minimum wage laws and robot adoption, (ii) the link between right to work laws and robot adoption, and (iii) the relationship between robot adoption and firm wages.
