Déterminants du choix d'un mode d'expansion internationale par un distributeur: modèle conceptuel et validation empirique

Karine Picot-Coupey

Post-Print from HAL

Abstract: Whereas considerable work has been devoted to the subject of entry mode choice in the literature on international management, this research subject has paradoxically enjoyed little interest in international retailing while the idiosyncrasies of the sector question the possible generalisation of the results. Moreover, the literature uses a static concept, an entry mode, within a dynamic process, the one of internationalisation: a fruitful analysis can therefore be made of this paradox, one which differentiates the entry mode and the expansion mode. In this perspective, this research focuses on the determinants of retail store networks' expansion mode choice internationally. A conceptual model of the determining factors of expansion mode choice is developed and tested using the PLS approach for path modeling. Based upon 43 responses, the results provide evidence which throw into relief the explanatory influence of the international marketing programme, the strategic and capitalistic profile and the perceived attractiveness of the foreign market through three dimensions of an expansion mode: dissemination risk, control and resource commitment.
