Abstract:
"Over the last few years the number of employees in eastern Germany subject to social security contributions sank by a total of 1.1 percent; in western Germany on the other hand it rose by 1.4 percent. However, these net figures, which are usually in the centre of public interest, hide great fluctuation: new jobs are being created in many businesses and establishments while in others even more jobs are disappearing."
