Abstract: Abstract It is very apparent to most of those who are concerned with the teaching of mathematics that some kind of attempt should be made to establish whether the results of a teaching endeavour are more desirable than those of its alternatives. The curriculum evaluator addresses himself to this kind of task, and, although the utility of the outcome of his efforts is, more often than not, highly questionable, we are likely to accept that the aims of this kind of exercise are relevant to the teacher.
