A chapter in Polyzentrale Stadtregionen - Die Region als planerischer Handlungsraum: 14. Junges Forum der ARL, 22. bis 24. Juni 2011 in Dortmund, 2012, pp 157-169 from ARL – Akademie für Raumentwicklung in der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft

Abstract: Preventive flood protection gains importance as a field of action in regional planning since the end of the 1990s. This paper analyses the contribution of regional planning to preventive flood protection by using an analysis of contents of regional plans. The results show clearly that regional planning embraced this task. But some fields of action are not covered by all regions. Regional planning should spend more attention in their plans to rainwater retention und the reduction of potential damages in areas at risk from flooding behind dikes.
